Toronto and Regional Conservation Authority
“Since its formation in 1957, Toronto and Region Conservation has prepared and delivered programs for the management of the renewable natural resources within its watersheds.”
Projects:
Walkers Woods/Glen Major – Uxbridge Ontario –
When approached by the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), we suggested that they try a “hybrid” form of contracting to reconstruct a portion of the Trans Canada Trail.
We provided the machines to construct the trail tread as well as 50 hand tools for volunteers to use for final hand finishing.
In two days 1.5 kms of the trail was machine cut and two groups of volunteers hand finished on the following Saturday and Sunday. The Trillium Foundation funded the project.
Since that first project, Sustainable Trails has completed another volunteer “hybrid” contract as well as a few additional trail re alignments under conventional contracting.
Albion Hills Conservation Area
Working with the IMBA Trail Care Crew ( Nat and Rachael Lopes ) the Sustainable Trails crew conduct a trail training workshop at the Albion Hills Conservation Area. Some of these trails are used by the 24 hours of Summer Solstice race
